Loʻi Waipahu

This 7-acre project in the Waikele wetlands is being transformed from an area overrun by invasive species into a thriving food garden to support the Waipahu community. Since breaking ground in 2023, it has been stewarded by Future Farmers of America Waipahu Chapter, Waipahu Intermediate students, and the HOH hui, with guidance from kūpuna like Hercules Huihui to restore traditional terraced lo‘i kalo. With the potential to feed families from Waikele to Ho‘ae‘ae, the effort relies on community participation to clear debris, restore the land, and build a sustainable future. Everyone, regardless of age or experience, is welcome to join in this shared mission of mālama ʻāina.
