Kāhili Beach Preserve

Kāhili Beach Preserve, located in Koʻolau, Kaua‘i, is a 17-acre coastal sanctuary that protects the Kīlauea stream mouth, riparian buffers, and shoreline ecosystem while ensuring continued public access to Kāhili Beach. Originally a 5.43-acre donation in 2003 by Louise and Monte Zweben, the preserve expanded in 2013 with an additional 12.2 acres secured by the Hawai‘i Land Trust (HILT). Volunteers, in collaboration with the Kīlauea Neighborhood Association, dedicate time to keeping the beach clean, contributing over 1,000 hours to conservation efforts. Supported in part by the Chan Zuckerberg Kaua‘i Community Fund, the preserve hosts guided hikes, educational programs, and volunteer opportunities to engage the public in stewarding this coastal treasure for future generations.
